Detailed Itinerary

Private Cusco City Tour: Inca Ruins & Colonial History Half-Day Experience

Day 1

A Journey Through Time (Morning or Afternoon)

Step 1: Private Hotel Pickup

Your private guide and driver arrive at your hotel (Historic Center). We start with a brief, engaging introduction to Cusco's dual identity—Inca foundations and Spanish colonial overlays—setting the stage for what you're about to see.

Step 2: The Golden Temple (Qorikancha)

We begin at the Qorikancha, the spiritual center of the Inca Empire. Once plated in gold, its masterful stonework now forms the base of the Santo Domingo Convent. Your guide will reveal the clash and fusion of two worlds in this architectural marvel. (Note: Entrance optional/add-on).

Step 3: Ascent to the Archaeological Park

We ascend by private vehicle to the outskirts of the city, enjoying panoramic views of Cusco's red-tiled roofs as we head to the monumental sites.

Step 4: The Colossal Sacsayhuamán

Stand before the zigzagging walls of Sacsayhuamán, where stones weighing up to 120 tons fit together so perfectly that not even a blade of grass can pass between them. This was the stage for the Inti Raymi and a symbol of Inca engineering power.

Step 5: The Qenqo Forest (Exclusive Pause)

Unlike standard itineraries, we pause at the Qenqo Eucalyptus Forest. It’s a magical, quiet spot perfect for stretching your legs, breathing the fresh mountain air, and taking beautiful portraits away from the ruins' bustle.

Step 6: The Ritual Circuit (Qenqo, Puka Pukara, Tambomachay)

  • Qenqo: A mysterious rock sanctuary with underground passages used for mummification rituals.
  • Puka Pukara: The "Red Fortress," a military outpost offering stunning views of the valley.
  • Tambomachay: The Temple of Water, where ancient aqueducts still channel crystal-clear spring water today.

Step 7: Return & Recommendations

We drive you back to your hotel, enriched and acclimated. Before parting, your guide will provide personalized recommendations for the best local dining spots or hidden museums to visit on your own time.

What to bring
Recommendations
  • Acclimatization First: Cusco sits at 11,152 ft (3,400 m). This tour is "Easy" rated specifically to help your body adjust. We recommend scheduling this for your first afternoon or second morning in the city.
  • The Tourist Ticket (BTC): You will need the "Cusco Tourist Ticket" to enter Sacsayhuamán and the other ruins. If you plan to visit the Sacred Valley later, buy the Full Ticket (10 days). If this is your only tour, the Partial Ticket suffices. We can purchase this for you in advance.
  • Clothing Strategy: Cusco weather is unpredictable. Layers are key. Bring a light jacket for the wind at Sacsayhuamán and a hat/sunscreen for the high-altitude sun.
  • Optional Cathedral Visit: Want to see the "Last Supper" with the guinea pig? We can easily add a visit to the Cusco Cathedral to your itinerary. Just ask!
Frequently asked questions

Clearing Your Doubts

Do I need to buy the Boleto Turístico (Tourist Ticket) in advance?

No, you don't have to worry about it. You can easily purchase it at the first archaeological site we visit, or we can include it in your booking package for convenience.

Is this tour suitable for children or seniors?

Yes, it is perfect for both. The walking is gentle, and since you have a private vehicle, we can drive very close to the entrance of each site, minimizing physical exertion. It's the most family-friendly way to see the ruins.

Do I need to buy the entrance tickets myself?

You have the option. You can buy them at the first site (cash only, usually), or we can add them to your booking so you have everything prepaid and ready. We recommend the latter for a frictionless experience.

Can we stop for photos whenever we want?

Absolutely. That is the beauty of a private tour. If you see a beautiful view of the city or want to take a family photo with a llama, just let your guide know. The schedule is yours.

What if I feel sick from the altitude?

Our guides are trained to handle altitude symptoms. We carry oxygen in the vehicle and, because the tour is private, we can slow down, take breaks, or even return to the hotel early if necessary. Your health is the priority.

Are we expected to tip the guide and driver?

Tipping is voluntary and always appreciated if you feel the service exceeded your expectations.

Machu Picchu Tour

Date of experience:September 2025

The one-day tour to Machu Picchu is well organized and the scenic train is lovely. The guide was friendly and explained everything well during the visit. I felt the time inside Machu Picchu was a bit tight to take it all in calmly, but I understand there's a set time limit for visitors. Overall, it met my expectations.

Excellent service

Date of experience:September 2025

It was a refreshing experience to explore the history and landscapes over these four days — every destination, from Moray to Ollantaytambo, left us wanting to learn more. Machu Picchu was without a doubt the highlight, though at times it was quite crowded, which made it a little harder to enjoy peacefully — still, everything was made easy to manage. Totally worth it!

A different and relaxing experience🙂‍↕️

Date of experience:August 2025

We took the valley tour with an outdoor picnic and the views were stunning! The peacefulness of the place made everything feel so different and special! The only thing was that time flew by — we would have liked to stay a bit longer to enjoy the scenery in the evening light. Still, it was totally worth it and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for something different and peaceful near Cusco.

Great experience.

Date of experience:July 2025

The 5-day tour was really great overall. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly, and the private city tour of Cusco was a great way to get oriented. Visiting Moray and Maras with the picnic was a unique experience, and seeing Machu Picchu was definitely a highlight. The full-day hike to Vinicunca was tough but rewarding, though I wish there had been a bit more time to rest afterward. Still, the trip was well organized and comfortable, and I would definitely recommend it.

I just returned from an incredible 7-day private tour with this agency, and I can’t recommend them highly enough! From the very first moment, everything was perfectly organized, professional, and personalized. The itinerary included the City Tour of Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Maras, and Moray — each destination was breathtaking and our guide made the history and culture come alive in such an engaging way. Every detail was taken care of, which made the whole trip stress-free and enjoyable. The highlight for me was definitely the Andean picnic. It was such a unique and magical experience, surrounded by stunning landscapes while enjoying delicious local food. Truly unforgettable! If you are looking for a private, top-quality, and memorable experience in Cusco, this is the agency to book with. Their passion for what they do really shows, and they made my trip one I’ll never forget.
